  • Amendment 4 to the NASA ARMD Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2016 NRA has been posted on the NSPIRES site. Through this solicitation the Transformative Aeronautics Concepts Program (TACP) seeks to develop novel concepts with the potential to create new capabilities in aeronautics by stimulating aeronautics research in the student community. TACP will provide students, from accredited U.S. colleges or universities, with grants for aeronautics projects that also raise cost sharing funds using crowdfunding platforms. This challenge, which is being run as a pilot project, seeks students who have an aeronautics-related project idea and have the passion to develop that idea. The project must be relevant to the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) Strategic Implementation Plan https://www.nasa.gov/aeroresearch/strategy and address one of ARMD’s six strategic thrusts as they affect aviation. The solicitation goal can be accomplished through project ideas such as advancing the design, developing technology or capabilities in support of aviation, by demonstrating a novel concept, or enabling advancement of aeronautics-related technologies. Notices of Intent (NOIs) are not required for this solicitation. Proposals are due October 16, 2017.
  • Amendment 3 to the NASA ARMD Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2016 NRA has been posted on the NSPIRES site. This release seeks to stimulate the formulation of a conceptual design of an advanced single-aisle-class commercial transport concept with expected entry into service (EIS) in the Mid-Term time frame (EIS in 2035 or earlier). This solicitation specifically targets designs where in addition to secondary systems such as flight controls, wing de-icing, etc., a significant amount of electrical power is used for aircraft propulsion. The design concept must meet the operational requirements of a conventional Boeing 737/Airbus A320, 154 passenger class, single-aisle twin-turbofan configuration, and perform better on the aircraft-level metrics of mission energy use, life cycle carbon, emissions, and noise. Electrified aircraft propulsion using full or partial turboelectric or full or partial hybrid-electric configurations are sought. NASA encourages proposers to put together their best teams in complementary partnerships with industries, small businesses, and universities. NOIs are due October 14, 2016 and proposals are due November 28, 2016.
  • Amendment 2 to the NASA ARMD Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2016 NRA has been posted on the NSPIRES site. This release includes a topic in Appendix D.5 in support of the University Leadership Initiative. This initiative allows universities and university-led partnerships to provide strategic leadership that advances ARMD’s research objectives and promotes education of the next generation of engineers. Proposers will identify technical challenges and research activities that will contribute to the six strategic thrusts provided in the ARMD Strategic Implementation Plan. Specifically, this solicitation is seeking proposals for work in six topic areas corresponding to the six ARMD strategic thrusts. NOIs are due May 5, 2016 and Step-A proposals are due June 7, 2016.
  • Amendment 1 to the NASA ARMD Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2016 NRA has been posted on the NSPIRES site. This release seeks to stimulate innovation in specific areas to foster the pursuit of revolutionary aircraft concepts and technology development to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4-‐6 by 2025 to fill mid-‐term and long-‐term needs of the air transportation system. NASA strongly encourages proposers to put together their best teams in complementary partnerships with industries, small businesses, and universities in the U.S. aeronautics community. Specifically, this solicitation is intended to identify and execute high payoff research in the following topic areas: 1. Aircraft Noise Reduction and 2. Advanced Aircraft Icing NOIs are due April 28, 2016 and proposals are due May 31, 2016.
