  • The NICER Guest Observer - Cycle 6 program is NOT soliciting new proposals. Only those Principal Investigators who have been accepted for observations and who have received a request for budget information should submit a cover page and proposal in accordance with the instructions in that letter.
  • NOTICE: Amended June 13, 2023. ROSES-2023 Amendment 29 announces a number of changes to this program: 1) An on-orbit event in late May altered the performance of NICER’s X-ray Timing Instrument under certain conditions, chiefly in its low-energy X-ray response during orbit day. At the time of the release of this Amendment, the impacts of this change on Cycle 6 General Observer program observations have not yet been fully assessed and proposers should consult the NICER mission homepage at https://heasarc.gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/nicer for updates. Proposers are advised to bear in mind that orbit-night time is likely to be heavily oversubscribed and that seasonal scheduling restrictions (similar to the Sun angle constraints described in Table D.11-1) may be imposed on investigations requiring sensitivity to X-ray energies below approximately 600 eV. 2) The four-page limit for the Scientific/Technical/Management section of proposals includes figures but not references (see Section 2.2.1). 3) Information on high-end computing (HEC) support has been added to Sections 2.1, 2.2.1, and 2.2.5. 4) Other small clarifications corrections and additions have been made throughout. New text is in bold and deleted text is struck through. The Phase-1 proposal due date remains unchanged at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time via ARK/RPS on September 14, 2023.
  • The description of the specific proposal opportunity on this page is contained in the document 'D.11 NICER General Observer - Cycle 6'. The document 'D.1 Astrophysics Research Program Overview' describes research activities within the NASA science division that is managing the specific proposal opportunity on this page and may impose requirements upon proposals submitted to this program element. The document 'Summary of Solicitation' describes the common requirements for all ROSES-2023 proposal opportunities. The document 'Table 1' contains the proposal check list from the Summary of Solicitation. The documents 'Table 2' and 'Table 3' contain the list of all proposal opportunities and their due dates, sorted by (full or Step-2) proposal due date or appendix number, respectively. All of these documents are kept up to date and incorporate amendments, clarifications, and corrections in a clearly identifiable manner.
